A sad case: The wife of ex-Sheriff Swift had become insane. The feeling of the family hoped that it was temporary. She showed signs of dementia about 10 days ago and she gradually became worse ... and claimed that she had received communication from the spirits. She then became possessed of the idea that she was “Queen of the Earth” and sacrifices must be made in her honor. It is claimed her troubles grew out of religious excitement and spiritual manifestations and so it has been decided to send her to Stockton under the care of Dr. Clarke, a friend and schoolmate of hers.

USS Nevada silver service: The commander of the Puget Sound Navy said that the silver service off the battleship USS Nevada was packed and ready for shipment. Commodore Thompson listed 68 items that have been wrapped pending shipment to the Nevada museum with the ornate punch bowl, 24 punch cups, sugar and cream set, water pitcher, candelabra, teapot, coffee pot, ladle, sandwich and serving dishes ...

Lucky Spur: The Lucky Spur owner is attempting to sell the property for $1.8 million. The city is moving forward with plans to condemn the Spur as blighted and sell the property to someone who will fix it. “We have $100,000 (in redevelopment funds) set aside to help somebody restore that building,” Mary Walker said. “And that includes Mr. Halyak (the owner) if he can come up with a decent plan.”
