It’s with great pleasure that I get to tell you the US Navy Ship Carson City (T-EPF 7) sailed away from Austal’s ship manufacturing facility in Mobile, Ala., Monday morning bound for Little Creek Naval Base, Virginia, to join the US Navy fleet. The ship is the nation’s seventh Expeditionary Fast Transport ship design to haul large quantities of troops, tanks, trucks, and various other military equipment including medical, humanitarian and disaster relief supplies. Her sister ship, the USNS Spearhead (T-EPF 1), the first in class, has deployed six times supporting operations all over the world. Capable of speeds greater than 40 knots, or about 45 MPH, this high speed vessel even tracked down a group of pirates, saving the lives of 18 crew members.
