Update: Two homes destroyed by fire in Dayton

Two homes were destroyed during a structure fire in the Rose Peak Road in Dayton on Wednesday.

The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District said the fire broke out about 12:30 p.m.

CLCFPD requested the help of Storey County Fire, Carson City Fire, East Fork Fire, North Lyon Fire, Incline and North Lake Fire and Mason Valley Fire. Fire crews were still on scene some 5 hours after the fire broke out.

Two bystanders were transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nevada State Fire Marshals Office.

American Red Cross volunteers are assisting four adults, four children and three pets.
