The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: If there was ever a weekend that demonstrated Carson City was the place to be this has been it. Led by the Epic Rides event, there was so much going on, this weekend showed what kind of people Carson City has to make a weekend like this possible.

SILVER DOLLAR: We salute all those involved, including the youth who actively participated in the development of the Boys and Girls Clubs William N. Pennington Teen Center.

SILVER DOLLAR: Congratulations to Western Nevada College’s D.J. Peters for being drafted in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and for signing with his lifelong team. Also, congratulations to Peters for being named as a third team All-American.

SILVER DOLLAR: Congratulations to the Yankees for winning the City Little League Championship.

SILVER DOLLAR: Oh yeah, we almost forgot, with everything going on, today is Father’s Day. We’re guessing the fathers really enjoyed — and are probably still enjoying — everything that’s going on in Carson City this weekend, but eventually today they’ll have earned a well-deserved break.
