The New York Tribune says: Dr. Solomon Andrews of this city has invented a flying ship designed to navigate the air — not merely to rise into and float in it, like a balloon, at the mercy of every current, but to travel through it from place to pace in any desired direction and in any wished for rate of speed — with the wind, across it, or against it, as the case may be.

There is going up complaint that several of the steam laundries established to supersede the Chinese laundries have failed. The people grumble because the white laundrymen charge more than the Chinese laundrymen.

Regarding reports that Gov. Boyle had been called upon by the national government to mobilize the militia of Nevada. In a statement to a Nevada Appeal representative, Gov. Boyle said no official notification has been made yet, but many requests from the press have come up wanting to know how many troops Nevada could come up with in case of trouble.

Lt. Addison Millard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Millard of Carson City, is now at a redeployment camp near LeHarve, France, awaiting shipment home. Lt. Millard should arrive in the states sometime later this month.

50 years ago

Inmates at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City now have a good chance to look into their legal rights. The prison announced Friday that Reno Attorneys John Squire Drendel and William O. Bradley have donated their law library, valued at $7,500 to the State Prison.

30 years ago

The Nevada Appeal today is celebrating the success of its “113 days to 10,000” circulation drive. The Appeal, for its first time in its (then) 121-year history, surpassed the 10,000 circulation mark.
