12 arrested as result of Operation Safer Streets in Carson, Douglas, Washoe and Lyon

Twelve arrests were made last week as a result of Operation Safer Streets, a multi-agency collaborative effort to perform personal contacts on high risk offenders under the supervision of the Division of Parole and Probation, was conducted in the Carson, Douglas, Washoe, and Lyon County areas.

Over the course of Friday and Saturday, 26 officers from the Carson City Division of Parole and Probation office, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office performed personal contacts with high risk offenders in the area. The operation was made possible through funding provided by a Justice Assistance Grant to support the Division of Parole and Probation.

As a result of “Operation Safer Streets,” eight offenders were arrested for violating conditions of their supervision and four non-supervised individuals were arrested for committing new crimes. Officers performed 74 home contacts, four employment contacts, four field contacts, 40 drug tests, and 28 K-9 searches. In addition to meeting with offenders, officers performed 48 personal contacts with community members to verify offender compliance.

This multi-agency collaboration was a great success, officials stated. “Operation Safer Streets” allowed for increased offender supervision, sharing of resources, and intelligence and served as an example of how state and local law enforcement agencies work together to increase community safety in Northern Nevada, officials also said.
