150 Years Ago

The mint party. A ball was given at the Pavilion in honor of the Mint Commissioners. It was largely attended and a very gay event. We hope soon to hear the dollars jingling as merrily from the coiners handling the Nevada branch mint, as the feet of those jolly dancers jingled to the strains of fiddle and piccolo.

130 Years Ago

Joyce jugged. John Joyce, a tramp, was at the Arlington House and demanded his breakfast without being able to pay. The landlord refused and suddenly found himself hit under the ear. In the courtroom, the tramp asked if he had hit Judge Cary to rise to his feet. Striking a Marquis of Queensbury attitude, the tramp made several passes in the air and replied, “I lifted him a couple of clouts.” The court fined him $100. The tramp is now engaged in landscape gardening on the streets.

Light for the valley. Genoa is to be illuminated with electricity and that power will come from the stream used previously by the Dressler flour mill.

80 Years Ago

Dog barred. K. Haskell Winstead received a 10-day suspended sentence for taking his dog into a grocery store. It is against the city’s ordinance.

50 Years Ago

Television shows. Channel 8 — “Twentieth Century,” “Ripcord,” “Lassie,” “My Martian,” “Ed Sullivan,” “Perry Mason.”

20 Years Ago

Wallace Theaters. Movies at Northgate 10 are “The Inside Man,” “Larry the Cable Guy,” “The Shaggy Dog.”
