Carson City seeking applicants to sit on boards, committees and commissions

Carson City has a number of positions open on its boards, committees and commissions.

Applicants must be Carson City residents, and in some cases registered voters, and all serve without compensation.

The Planning Commission is seeking one commissioner with a term that expires in June 2020.

The commission oversees Carson City’s planning and zoning, land use and growth management and meets the last Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m.

Applicants must be willing to serve approximately 12- to 16-hours a month. Applications are due by June 24.

The Library Board of Trustees, which oversees library policy and budgets, has one position open with a term that expires in June 2020.

Applicants must be willing to serve between six- to eight-hours a month. The application is due June 16.

The Visitors Bureau, which oversees tourism, needs three new board members in different categories: hotel/motel, commercial interests and citizen-at-large. All three terms expire in July 2018 and applications are due by July 8.

The visitors board meets on the second Monday of every month at 4 p.m.

The Board of Supervisors interviews and appoints the new members for the Planning Commission, Library Board of Trustees and the Visitors Bureau board.

The Audit Committee, which meets at least quarterly, is seeking one citizen-at-large member with a term to expire at the end of the year.

The committee provides oversight of the auditing function, internal and external, and is looking for people with experience in financial services, public accounting, and/or governmental auditing, and current knowledge of public laws and regulations governing an audit committee.

Applications are due by June 3.

One spot is open on the Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife. The meeting schedule varies and may require up to six hours a month to serve. The term expires in July 2019 and applications are due by June 24.
