Downtown businesses get their way again
While reading a story in the May 11 Nevada Appeal about the continuing work downtown I came across a paragraph that really infuriated me.
“Initially the plan was to close the entire stretch of Carson Street from William to Fifth streets for 10 days in order to save time and money, but business have pushed back on that,” as stated by Danny Rotter, engineering manager, Carson City Public Works department.
Are these the same businesses that got their way, over a vote of the citizens, to proceed with this project? A key phrase in the quote: “To save time and money!” How is it that these businesses are allowed to say “no” to saving time and money?
News flash — no one is able to park on Carson Street at this time anyway to go into these businesses. There is plenty of parking to the west and east of Carson Street to frequent any business along that street. This is ridiculous! Anyone who has to drive anywhere around the downtown area wants this work to be completed as soon as possible. Now there is a way to save time and money and a few business owners are allowed to say no? Does the city government understand that there is an election coming up and for them to knuckle under when there is an opportunity to save time and money on this project is not going to be favorable in the eyes of the voters?
