Carson City’s five-year update of its stormwater management plan is now available for review and public comment.
“This program helps keep pollutants out of the river, and helps to keep our drinking water clean,” said Shyla Lemons, engineer tech II with the Public Work’s Floodplain/Stormwater Management.
The 50-page document is available online at http://www.carsonsw.org/stormwater-service-changes/city-storm-drain-maps/
Public comment is being accepted from Nov. 7 to Jan. 4 either via email to stormwaterhotline@carson.org or by phone at 887-2305.
In addition, said Lemons, new floodplain maps for parts of the city become effective Dec. 22.
The changes could remove some houses from the floodplain and affect whether homeowners need to continue to carry flood insurance.
The area encompasses land south of East 5th Street to Clearview Drive and Carson Street to Edmonds Drive, said Lemons.
“Homeowners should get in touch with either their mortgage company or insurance agent, whichever carries the flood insurance of the loan, and alert them to the change,” she said.
