The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City’s Chi Duong who matched his highest finish ever in the 10th Tae Kwon Do Poomsae World Championships in Lima, Peru, completed on Oct. 1. Duong earned his second silver medal in his Under-65 age group in the 2016 Championships, matching the silver medal he won in the 2014 World Championships in Mexico. Duong placed second to Korea’s Hee-do Kim in the competition in which points are earned for accuracy, speed, power and presentation.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City veteran Larry Knack who was honored by EyeZone Nevada as Military Hero of the Game at the University of Nevada football game on Oct. 8. Knack, a U.S. Navy Chief Boatswains Mate and Army Retired Master Sergeant, served in the Armed Forces for 28 years, He earned 24 ribbons and 15 medals for his service. As part of his recognition, Knack received four game tickets, pre-game hospitality passes and apparel. Additionally, a videoboard message paid tribute to him during a timeout.
SILVER DOLLAR: Also to Clifton C. Maclin Jr. of Carson City, who was a guest faculty member at West Point Military Academy Oct. 8-9. He spoke to the Leadership Speakers Academy faculty members on becoming a Servant Leader. To watch his presentation, go to https://youtu.be/H_4eOojvIUc.
