SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Always thankful for Vets

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: Friday was Veterans Day, but we of course know every day should be Veterans Day. We’re just stating the obvious, but we all need to make sure ALL of our Veterans are honored and receive everything they need and that takes more than saying thank you, although our veterans certainly appreciate a simple thank you.

SILVER DOLLAR: We also congratulate the United States Marine Corp for turning 241 years old last week, so to all those who are currently serving or have served in the Marines, you don’t look too bad for being 241.

SILVER DOLLAR: Now matter how you feel about how the election turned out, we’re thankful for the efficient process when it comes to voting in this state and in Carson City. From absentee to early voting to voting on election day last week, the process was again efficient, which certainly led to the high voter turnout. So thank you to all those officials and volunteers who helped us all to vote.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Minden Elementary School teacher Pam Ertel for being named State Teacher of the Year.
