Startup Weekend Reno starts on November 18, 2016 and has participants go from pitching an idea to presenting a flushed out business plan to a panel of judges within 54 hours. Participants will experience the hustle of starting a business from the ground up and will learn practical tools for engaging their target market early and often. This event is for entrepreneurs looking to bring a particular idea to life and those looking to get involved with a new startup. Showing up with an idea is not required.

Bryan McArdle, one of the organizers of Startup Weekend Reno and Manager of Entrepreneurial Development at EDAWN, said, “It’s a learn-by-doing event. We think that it’s not about the idea you work on this weekend, but all the ideas to come. One could spend every weekend going forward using this method to find their million-dollar, or billion-dollar company.”

“This is one of my favorite events for encouraging entrepreneurship in our city,” said Mayor Hilary Scheive who has attended and helped to judge past presentations. “Startup Weekend Reno is connecting current entrepreneurs and creating the next wave of innovation in Reno and across the world.”

Startup Weekend Reno is part of the national organization, Startup Weekend Global, a subsidiary of Techstars. As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week cities all across the globe are also having their Startup Weekend’s at the same time. Brazil, Burma, Poland, the Philippines and 19 other countries are all participating, along with U.S. Cities like Seattle, Las Vegas and Kansas City. Sponsors include Google for Entrepreneurs, EDAWN and TrainerRoad (a Reno based, tech startup). Prizes include items from Reno Collective, Sugar Love Chocolates and loads of bragging rights.

Tickets are on sale now at Reno.StartupWeekend.org at the price of $100 which covers meals, sodas and coffee throughout the weekend, a limited edition t-shirt and access to the various mentors and subject matter experts that are brought in from the community. The general public is invited to attend the demo day pitches and judging on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5pm. Tickets for the Demo Day can also be purchased on the website.
