Scouts hold huge food drive

About 6,000-7,000 pounds of food were collected in Boy Scouts of America, Pinenut District’s “Scouting for Food” campaign Nov. 5-12.

The event occurs annually and helps provide meals to those who are in need.

It kicked off on Nov. 5 when Boy Scouts spent several hours passing out flyers to numerous neighborhoods asking for food donations.

On Nov. 12, Troops/Packs went back to those same neighborhoods to pick up bags of foods.

Scouts sent the food to Friends In-Service Helping (FISH) of Carson City, Dayton Food Bank, Carson Valley Community Food Closet of Gardnerville, BackPack for Buddies of Gardnerville, LifePoint Church of Minden, Christmas Cheer of Lake Tahoe, and St. Theresa’s Community Church of Lake Tahoe.

The Pinenut District thanks all neighborhood participants who donated bags of food. By donating, you have helped those in need and provided an opportunity for the Boy Scouts to be a participant in providing a service within our communities.

The Pinenut District includes Coleville, California, Lake Tahoe, Gardnerville, Minden, Carson City, and Dayton.

In Minden, more than 70 Boy Scouts gathered at the Minden-Tahoe Airport earlier this month to attend the Minden Youth Aviation Adventure.

The event’s star was the Army Air Guard’s Black Hawk helicopter, but gliders and other small aircraft also were available for Scouts to see.

The event, sponsored by the Sports Aviation Foundation, is presented to introduce youths ages 12-17 to the world of aviation. It also enabled Scouts to satisfy BSA’s Aviation Merit Badge requirement.
