Carson City victims of domestic violence benefit from tournament

The Carson City District Attorney’s office contributed $1,468 to Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

The funds were raised during the “Dodge for the Cause” event organized by the D.A.’s office on Nov. 4.

The tournament pit various agencies of Carson City and the State of Nevada against one another in friendly dodgeball competition. A team from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office won the tournament.

District Attorney Jason Woodbury called the event a “complete success” and credited Suzanne Crawford, a victim advocate in his office, with the idea.

“We hoped this thing would be fun, but the more important purpose was to promote awareness of domestic violence issues in our community. I think our victim/witness services division hit a home run on both counts.” Woodbury said.

Crawford agreed, adding, “Many participants and spectators told me how much fun they and their families had. I’m proud to work in a City that has so many employees dedicated to helping victims in our community. That’s part of what makes Carson City such a wonderful place to live.”

This was the first time for the event. Asked whether it would become an annual occurrence, Woodbury said, “Definitely. When we can help financially support an organization like the Advocates, raise awareness, and have this kind of fun, we have a positive event for this community. We’ll do it again.”
