Carson City Fire Department Local 2251 issues Holiday with a Hero challenge

The Carson City Fire Department Local 2251 Association has issued a formal challenge to the local businesses and organizations to beat its Holiday Crawl ticket sales to support Holiday with a Hero.

The association members bought $2,251 worth of tickets to support Holiday with a Hero, roughly 102 tickets for themselves and a guest.

“We want to publicly challenge the Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, the local labor groups, organizations or businesses in Carson City to beat our ticket numbers,” said Fire Captain Jason Danen.

Danen said they want to help encourage people to buy tickets to the Holiday Crawl on Dec. 3. The crawl benefits Holiday with a Hero, an event where underprivileged Carson City students get paired with a public safety officer and receive $100 to shop for Christmas presents. The organizers expect to have about 250 students at Holiday with a Hero this year happening on Dec. 21, estimating a cost of nearly $25,000. While the organizers do receive monetary donations from the community, the Holiday Crawl is the largest fundraiser.

“The point is that each person that buys a $20 ticket gives a student a Christmas that wouldn’t get one,” Danen said.

“We do this every year to give to charity and this is important and special to us because it directly impacts Carson City kids. We have a soft heart when it comes to the kids so we thought it was a good thing to put our money toward.”

Whatever organization or business that has the most ticket sales will win bragging rights for the year and a prize.

The Holiday Crawl is Dec. 3 from 5 to 10 p.m., with check in starting at 4 p.m.

With the crawl ticket, participants receive a 14 ounce stein, one free drink, plus food and drink specials at dozens of restaurants, bars and shops around downtown. This year, the crawl will have two bands playing; Stereo Galaxy at Telegraph Square and Whiskey Heroes at McFadden Plaza as well as live DJs in some venues.

Tickets are $20 before the event and $25 at the door. To purchase tickets visit squareup.com/market/carson-city-visitors-bureau or in person at the Visitor’s Bureau at 716 N. Carson St.

The organizers are also offering a discount for anyone who wants to buy bulk tickets, they can get 12 tickets for $200. To do so, email dgonzales@carson.org.

If anyone wants to donate to Holiday with a Hero but doesn’t want to attend the event, they can drop off monetary donations to the Stewart Street Fire Station 51, drop off or mail to the Sheriff’s Office at 911 Musser Street or visit Bank of the West and ask for the Holiday with a Hero account. All donations are tax deductible.

“It’s not about the fire department or the cops, it is about getting people to participate to give the kids what they need,“ Danen said. “It is a team effort and we can’t do it alone. Without a successful Holiday Crawl, we can’t put on Holiday with a Hero.”
