Emigrants. — A party of emigrants from the other side of the Plains came through here on Saturday. They and their stock looked as if the star of Empire was getting very weary of its westward course through the sagebrush and alkali.

No newspaper editor in this State has received more compliments and honors of the Republican party that C.C. Powning of the Reno Journal. He has been elected twice to the State Senate, given the lucrative office of U.S. Surveyor General and nominated for Congress. In addition to this he has been allowed to control nearly all the patronage of the State Prison State University and Lunatic Asylum.
100 YEARS AGO
Fay S. Shannon of Jerome, Idaho and Charlotte Henningsen of San Jose, Ca., were married Sunday afternoon by the Rev. W.H.D. Hornaday. The bride is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. C.C. Henningsen of the Glenbrook hotel at Lake Tahoe. The groom is engaged in ranching and mercantile at Jerome, Idaho and has been spending his vacation at Glenbrook.

The Nevada Day committees search for pioneers, still living in Nevada, who were in the territory prior to its admission to the Union October 31, 1864, is not only an innovation in itself, but is also unique due to is recognition of the fact that Indians, as well as whites, are entitled to be honored as Nevada pioneers.

Mayor James Robertson says he has received favorable responses from residents to a proposed Downtown Beautification Plan. The project would divert parking from Carson Street, through the center of the State Capital, to side streets. Traffic lanes would be widened, and the sidewalks landscaped for 10 blocks.
30 YEARS AGO
A Reno-based homosexual group says it plans to buy the tiny ghost town of Rhyolite and convert it into the nation’s first city “oriented toward the gay and lesbian lifestyle.”
