The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those involved for organizing the We Love Our Law Enforcement Officers rally last weekend at United Federal Credit Union on William Street. And of course to all the law enforcement officers who protect and serve us every day.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those who contributed to making the new animal shelter — which has been desperately needed by our community — a reality.
SILVER DOLLAR: To former University of Nevada basketball standout and current NBA player Ramon Sessions for his $1 million donation to the university for a new basketball practice facility.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those involved in Nevada Moves Day, which was held last week to encourage youth to walk or bike to school. And to all the students who participated. We obviously encourage parents and their children to continue to make Carson City a community in which a large number of students walk or bike to school.
