Guns in honor of the Union victories: The Carson Zouaves got out its howitzer last evening and fired some very lively salutes in honor of the recent Eastern Union victories.

Indians kick up row: At the Virginia and Truckee Depot last evening six buck Indians who had just arrived from Minden and were pretty well filled up with booze, created quite a disturbance. One of the number, by the name of Banning, hit one of the others in the face with a block of wood and then drew a knife, but both ran away when outsiders interfered. Officer McCharles immediate got after the whole bunch and told them to either take the train and get out of town or go to jail. They took the train.

70 years ago

Even the huge fireworks display planned by the Nevada Day committee for the night of Oct. 31 must take a backseat to the pyrotechnical show put on last night by Mother Nature. Carson City residents say plenty of stars falling as dozens of meteors flashed across the crystal clear sky in the greatest display of celestial fireworks ever viewed in the capital city all from the Gaicobini-Zinner comet.

A survey of 9,413 Nevada high school students conducted by the University of Nevada System reveals 43 percent of the seniors will get their higher education outside of Nevada.
