The Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front Field Office has published the revised Environmental Assessment for the American Flat Road/Lucerne Access Right-of-Way Project. This document has been prepared to meet the obligations of the National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act. The Project area is south of Gold Hill, in Storey County, Nevada. Public comments will be accepted through October 20.

In July 2012, Comstock Mining, LLC submitted to the BLM an application to amend their existing right-of-way for use of the American Flat Road. The right-of-way amendment would also allow the construction, operation and maintenance of an exclusive use haul road between Comstock Mining, LLC’s existing mining operation in the Lucerne Pit and their existing heap-leach processing facility in American Flat. Modifications to the existing American Flat Road for public safety would also be authorized.

To meet the obligations under the NHPA, Comstock Mining, LLC, the BLM, the State Historic Preservation Office and other consulting parties have prepared a draft Memorandum of Agreement to resolve the potential effects from the Project on eight historic properties in the Project area. This document is also being made available for public input.
