Patagonia Works, the holding company for Patagonia, Inc. apparel, has leased a 79,000 square foot distribution space in Sparks. The company focuses on high-end outdoor clothing and environmental causes.
“We love Reno for its great community and proximity to world-class outdoor recreation, and we’re excited to continue growing our presence in the area over the next few years,” said Adam Fletcher, director of global public relations and communications for Patagonia. “More information about our plans will be available at a later date.”
The new distribution warehouse will be located at 665 Spice Islands Dr., in Sparks. Patagonia also operates an outlet store at 8550 White Fir St. in west Reno and its products are available at a number of retail stores in the area and around the world.
NAI’s Industrial Properties Group specialists Michael Nevis, Dave Simonsen, J. Michael Hoeck, and Steve Kucera negotiated the lease on behalf of the property owner, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Northwestern’s real estate division is one of the largest real estate investors in the nation with investments in commercial mortgages and equity investments across all major property types.
Patagonia, founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard, is based in Ventura, Calif. The company is a Benefit Corporation (B-Corp), which is legally required to have a corporate purpose to create a positive impact on society and the environment.
Unlike a traditional holding company whose primary purpose is to reduce risk through diversification of assets and to reward shareholders, Patagonia Works aims to invest in companies working to bring about positive change in five critical areas: clothing, food, water, energy and waste.
Patagonia Works includes Patagonia, Inc. (apparel), Patagonia Provisions (food), and Patagonia Media (books, films and multimedia projects).
