University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering business strategies workshops this month for Nevada agriculture producers. The workshops are for owners, operators and successors of farming and ranching operations who want to transition their operations into more dynamic or expanded businesses.

The workshop will be offered July 21 in Reno at the Washoe County Cooperative Extension office, 4955 Energy Way. Register online at http://renobusinessag.eventbrite.com. eventbrite.com. Both workshops are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Topics include risk management, various business structures, business plans, budgeting, record keeping, marketing, managing credit. Also, an attorney is expected to be on hand at each location to answer questions regarding business laws. The workshop provides the setting, instructors and resources to stimulate conversations that farming and ranching operations should have when considering expanding or improving their businesses.

Registration is $10 per person and includes handouts, lunch and information updates. Those attending are encouraged to preregister at the Websites given above to ensure ample space and educational materials are available. Or, you may register by contacting Jennifer Kintz at kintzj@unce.unr.edu or 775-945-3444, ext. 16. Persons in need of special accommodations or assistance should call Staci Emm at 775-945-3444 at least three days prior to the workshop they intend to attend.

The workshops are part of Cooperative Extension’s Herds and Harvest Program that helps farmers and ranchers across the state develop agricultural entrepreneurship, implement sustainable agricultural marketing strategies and improve profitability. The program is supported by the USDA’s Risk Management Agency and the USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
