Saturday, March 19, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Each month portions of the proceeds for the Reno Wine Walk benefit local charitable organizations. In over five years the event organizers have donated more than $84,000 to local non-profits. This March the Riverwalk District’s monthly event will be supporting the Reno Rebuild Project, a small business community scholarship fund founded by local business owners. With these contributions, the fund will continue to grow, and once a year (beginning in 2013), the fund selects one idea from a Reno-based individual to receive a small business loan to make his or her dream a reality and restore faith in local small business owners and Reno’s potential as a thriving and lucrative home for small businesses in general.
This loan is a low-interest loan with all principal and interest returning to the fund to help it grow, with the hope of eventually funding more ideas each year. This fund is not used to finance big businesses, franchises or businesses outside the Reno-Sparks area. All money stays in the community, supporting the local economy and helping to rebuild the small business community.
Applicants can submit ideas through the end of March and throughout the year
“What we are looking for is a great idea that will bring something new to our city and improve the lives of those who call Northern Nevada home.” Michael Connolly said, owner and partner of the Reno Rebuild Project in a press release. “We want individuals who will bring pride of ownership to their business, a sense of community to the Reno area, and a business the city of Reno can be proud of it. And we hope one day that you will “pay it forward” in some way too.”
The Wine Walk is a monthly event held on the third Saturday where you purchase a decorative wine glass for a $20 wine-tasting fee. With wine glass in hand and a valid photo ID, you’ll receive an ID bracelet, which allows you to sample wine at any of the twenty-plus participating merchant locations. Many of the businesses hand paint each individual wine glass, which attendees get to take home. At the end of the event attendees enter to win over $700 in gift cards from all the participating merchants during a 5 p.m. raffle.
