BJG Architecture & Engineering was presented the Structural Project of the Year award at the 2016 Annual ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch awards banquet for its work on the GSR Grand Theatre Renovation.
The $10 million renovation, which was completed last August, consisted of increasing the seating capacity from 1,700 to 2,700, updating the décor, and creating an elegant lobby area. The remodel included demolition of the front section of the stage to create room for a pit with removable seating. The back seating area was also demolished and replaced with a self-supporting upper seating level, an upper lobby, and a theatre entrance. The main seating area was “re-sloped” to provide traditional theatre seating.
