Catherine Magee and Dan Thielen have been appointed to museum positions by the Nevada Division of Museums and History.
Magee will manage the Nevada Historical Society, on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, and Thielen will lead the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.
Magee, who has experience in management, conservation and stewardship of public and private art and object collections, previously worked at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and owned her own art conservation business in Reno and Washington.
She earned a doctorate in geography from UNR.
Thielen previously was curator of education at the railroad museum for many years before he left to serve full time as an officer in the Nevada Army National Guard. His service included a mobilization to Afghanistan and the construction of nearly 250,000 square feet of new readiness centers for the Army National Guard throughout the state. He served in the U.S. Navy, spending two years in Australia as a Mormon missionary.
He earned a master’s degree in outdoor museum management from Utah State University.
