David Berger has been named director of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Nevada Water Science Center, which is headquartered in Carson City.

He takes over for Mark Anderson who has been serving as acting director for the last four months.

Berger previously served as associate director of the Nevada Water Science Center. He joined the USGS in 1980 as a hydrologic field assistant with the Nevada District. He has served as Northern Nevada studies chief in 2003, then, in 2014, as associate Director and chief of the hydrologic investigation and hydrologic research sections for the Water Science Center.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in geophysics from the Mackay School of Mines and his master’s degree in hydrology/hydrogeology from the University of Nevada, Reno.
