Douglas County last week announced its new Spotlight Award honoring local
businesses that invest in their business, train employees for job growth
and partner with the community. The awards are given in seven categories
and were awarded to Fresh Ideas, a Gardnerville gift shop; Red Hut Café,
a 55-year old eatery with restaurants in Lake Tahoe, Carson City and
Reno; American AVK, a Minden manufacturer of water hydrants and valves;
Edgewood Companies, which owns and operates Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course
and is building a new resort at Lake Tahoe; Soaring NV, a gliding school
and operator owned by Laurie Harden, who was awarded the Spotlight Award
for entrepreneur; RO Anderson, a Minden-based engineering firm that
started as a sole proprietorship and now employs 36 people; and Carson
Valley Inn, the recently remodeled casino/hotel located in the center of
Minden.
