Taxable sales in Washoe County during August were 6.6 percent higher than the same month a year ago, the Nevada Department of Taxation said.
Sales in Carson City during August slipped 5.6 percent from year-earlier figures while Douglas County posted a 5.5 percent decline.
Automotive sales were up 17.3 percent in Washoe County. The category was essentially flat in Carson City.
Furniture stores in Washoe posted a 13.5 percent sales increase during August compared with the same month a year earlier, but general merchandisers reported a 1.7 percent decline in sales.
