Miles Construction adds operations liaison

Miles Construction, a diversified Northern Nevada general contractor, recently added Charity M. Clarke to the team as operation liaison. Clarke will manage the company’s internal communications efforts, assist with project management, proposals and events and serve as a liaison to the company’s marketing firm.

Clarke brings a diverse background of marketing, administrative and business development experience to her position with Miles. Previously, she managed travel and events, marketing and budgets for the National Judicial College and has also served as a volunteer at ProNet in Reno facilitating classes and connecting clients with new career opportunities. Clarke holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Carson based foundation honors corporate sponsor

Carson City-based Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation’s primary sponsor, Sport Clips Haircuts, a sports-themed haircutting franchise, has helped fund nearly 2,000 flights for senior military veterans.

Last month at the Franchise Education and Research Foundation’s annual Franchising Gives Back Awards, Sport Clips was honored with the Support Our Veterans Award for its continued support of Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation.

Ageless Aviation is a nonprofit that honors senior military veterans with the thrill of flight in one of three fully restored Boeing Stearman bi-planes, the same aircraft used to train military pilots during World War II.

Sport Clips’ employees also volunteer at AADF events. The organization also contributed funds to support the purchase of a fourth Stearman biplane, called the “Spirit of San Antonio,” which will serve the growing number of senior military veterans living in the southwest United States.

Nonprofit orchestra awarded grant

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra has been awarded a $1,500 grant made on behalf of Audrey Conley & Gertrude & L.J. Whitaker through the Charitable Fund at Schwab Charitable.

Judy Shedrew, president of the POPS Board of Directors, said the group will use the grant to fund its free concerts.

The nonprofit orchestra is made up of musicians in the community who donate their time and talent to provide free concerts to Carson Valley. It has awarded scholarships to graduates the last four years.

Its next performance will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. A holiday concert is planned for Dec. 10 and will feature seasonal favorites as well as the Voices of the Sierra Choir.

D & D has $6 million in new contracts

D & D Roofing and Sheet Metal president Ken Dillon announced the company has new contracts totaling nearly $6 million in new jobs.
