BASIN STREET PROPERTIES

Basin Street Properties, a prominent northern Nevada and northern California real estate investment, development and management firm and Par Tolles are pleased to announce the formation of Tolles Development Company.

Par Tolles will head up the new company concentrating, in part, on expanding Basin Street’s presence in Sacramento and Reno.

Tolles will continue serving in his role at Basin Street as interim president to ensure a smooth transition to future leadership, after which he will continue in an advisory role for the company.

CARE FLIGHT

In a joint announcement from Care Flight and Plumas District Hospital (PDH), ground ambulance services in the Quincy area began operations under Care Flight Ground Operations effective July 1.

BRISTLECONE HOLDINGS

Financial technology startup Bristlecone Holdings ranks among top performing companies in Gallup’s Q12 Employee Engagement survey.

In the 93rd percentile, its employee engagement is almost three times the national average, which stands at 32.6 percent according to Gallup’s most recent report.

NBC

The monthly Nevada Business Connections meeting is on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 8 am. Doors will open at 7:30 am at the Gold Dust West Casino, 2171 E. William Street, Carson City.

The featured speakers are: Karunesha Gupta, CEO of Ganesha Enterprises LLC, and Mike Brown, CEO of AMI Newco LLC dba Aloha Medicinals.

Guptaa is a spice blender new to Carson City in 22,000 sq ft with 18 employees and Brown is a mushroom manufacturer in 40,000 sq ft space with 50 employees.

TAHOE RESOURCES

Tahoe Resources Inc. announced strong financial and operations results for the second quarter and first half of 2016, including record half-year silver and gold production as well as record levels of revenue and cash flow per share for both the quarter and year to date.

SBA

The Small Business Administration has launched certify.sba.gov, a new website to further streamline and improve the application processes for small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to do business with the federal government.

WIN

Larry Williams, a veteran radio broadcaster and Reno resident, is the keynote speaker at the Aug. 26 WIN breakfast meeting. The sponsor of the August breakfast is First American Title.

In his talk, Chart-Topping Success: Your B-Side Reinvention, Larry Williams will share an inspirational message supported by actionable content that will focus on the four cornerstones of business: colleagues, customers, community and creativity.

APPLE

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved sales of renewable energy by the tech giant Apple on Aug. 4.

The company’s electricity, produced by a solar energy farm in California, a solar farm outside Yerington in Nevada, and another solar project in Arizona, went to market Aug. 7.

The California solar farm produces about 130 megawatts, the Nevada solar project produces another 20 megawatts and the Arizona project 50 megawatts, enough for almost 100,000 homes.

NEVADA ASSOCIATION SERVICES

Nevada Association Services Inc., which collects overdue homeowner association assessments through non-judicial foreclosure, recently merged with Hampton & Hampton Collections LLC. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Nevada Association Services CEO Joel Just said the merged company will have 27 employees, which will let it operate more efficiently in the state.

The combined company will work from Nevada Association Services’ offices at 6224 W. Desert Inn Road in Las Vegas and Hampton and Hampton’s Henderson offices at 880 Seven Hills Drive, Suite. 200.

AMERICORP

Five local nonprofits are recruiting AmeriCorps members. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Nevada Land Trust, Oxbow Nature Study Area, and the Wilbur D. May Arboretum have full-time (11 months).

AmeriCorps Educator positions are available in Reno.

AVIATION FORECAST SUMMIT

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport will host this year’s International Aviation Forecast Summit at Squaw Valley, Calif.

Boyd Group International and more than 30 of the most influential airline and aviation executives in the world will chart the future of the industry Sept. 17-20.

ELDORADO

Eldorado Resorts reported their second quarter net revenue of $231.3 million, operating income of $29.7 million and adjusted EBITDA of $46.7 million

The operating income increased for the fourth consecutive quarter and adjusted EBITDA increased for the fifth consecutive quarter.

MEADOWS BANK

Meadows Bank, headquartered in Las Vegas, announced that it posted net income after tax of $4,003,000 in the first half of 2016, which was 12 percent higher than the $3,580,000 it earned during the same period in 2015.

At June 30, 2016 the bank had Total Loans of $532.2 million, which represented a growth of $114.0 million over June 30, 2015, and $66.1 million over Dec. 31, 2015.

Meanwhile, Total Deposits grew by $116.9 million and $71.7 million from June 30, 2015 and Dec. 31, 2015 respectively to $529.1 million at June 30, 2016.

Also, as of June 30, 2016, Total Assets stood at $612.6 million while Total Equity Capital grew to $65.9 million.

CITY OF RENO

The City of Reno is launching a new special event called GIGS on the LID.

Every Wednesday, starting on Aug.10, a different local band and food truck will be in downtown Reno at lunch for your enjoyment. The event is located on the ReTRAC “lid,” near the Reno Arch between Whitney Peak and the Eldorado.

BREWER’S CABINET

The Brewer’s Cabinet brewing facility opened its doors and is now showing off its silo.

Starting in August the Brewer’s Cabinet will offer special dock sales to the public every Friday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The new dock sale event will be offering Single Canned beer starting at $2, cases of beer starting at $20, and kegs starting at $65.

WESTERN NEVADA COLLEGE

Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America sent representative Patrick Wright to speak to students in the two-class summer manufacturing training program, after Northern Nevada manufacturing leaders gathered at WNC to learn about the college’s new Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program.

From Wright, the students learned about Panasonic’s need and desire to hire locally. They also found that the company has a preference for skilled and educated workers, and offers some tips for becoming hired.

AAA

In all Nevada metro areas tracked by AAA, Reno is registering the state’s highest pump price, with drivers paying an average price of $2.65 per gallon for unleaded regular gas. Carson City is registering Nevada’s lowest price, at $2.31 a gallon.

CITY OF RENO

A local artist is painting colorful murals of shoes on Reno sidewalks in an effort to add even more art to the City of Reno.

The murals, titled “Comings and Goings,” are designed to create the visual presence of public passage, such as people catching the bus, enjoying dinner, attending a concert, seeing a movie, experiencing art and strolling the river, according to the artist, Bahareh Shahrabi Farahani.

NEVADA YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Nevada Youth Empowerment Project kicked off “Cleaning the Streets of Reno.” The group received a grant from the Reno Sparks Association of Realtors that provides all the supplies needed for graffiti abatement. The cleaning will take place on Wells Avenue.

UNR

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Herds & Harvest Program is offering the “Business Strategies for Growing Small-Scale” workshop Aug. 25, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. It is offered in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency, and will cover how to identify risks, ways to reduce risk, and ways to improve small-scale agricultural businesses.
