Affordable PM Classes for Nevada Nonprofits
As a way to give back to the community, PMI-Northern Nevada Chapter is offering project management classes to area nonprofits at greatly reduced costs. Discounts may also be available for hosting a class.
Course content focuses on situations specific to nonprofit organizations in fields such as education, social services, health care and government. Participants complete activities in key processes and techniques and receive a resource workbook with templates to help complete projects on time, under budget and within scope.

Building Control Services
MMC Corp., a national commercial construction services company based in Overland Park, Kan., has acquired Building Control Services, a building automation and service provider in Reno.
Building Control Services co-founders Tom Hulbert and Will Allen will remain with the company and will serve in the same capacities as president and vice president, respectively. They also will continue to lead the BCS team in Reno.
Revision Brewing Co.
Revision Brewing Co., based in Sparks, has signed a deal with R&R Beverage Company’s warehouse in Atlanta.
R&R Beverage, a boutique, family-owned company, is the first distributor that Revision Brewing Company decided to sign in the Southeast. Revision will open their northern Nevada based brewery in 2017.

Maplewood Stables, Inc., a horse breeding, training, showing and sales facility in Reno, has added a new riding and showing program geared towards middle and high school students. Organized in a team format, the Maplewood program will be affiliated with the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) and is a recent addition to the national hunter/jumper equestrian center.
Eldorado Resorts, Inc.
Eldorado Resorts, Inc. announced that it will report its 2016 third quarter financial results after the market closes on Thursday, Nov. 3. The company will host a conference call and webcast at 4:30 p.m. ET on that day to review the results.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe
Following the Lake Tahoe region’s first significant winter storm that left 7-18 inches of fresh snow on the mountains at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, and with cold overnight temperatures expected to continue through the week, the resort confirmed it plans to open for the 2016-17 winter season on Monday, Oct. 31. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe will be the first Lake Tahoe area resort to open for skiing and snowboarding this season.

Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A broke ground on a new 4,500-square-foot restaurant at 6365 South McCarran Boulevard in Reno. The building that housed Marie Calendar’s was demolished. The restaurant is expected open in early 2017.
The Atlanta-based company plans to open eight to 10 restaurants in Nevada in the next five years.
Northern Nevada Construction Career Day
The first ever Northern Nevada Construction Career Day, showcasing construction careers to Washoe County middle and high school students with a job fair for employment seekers, will be held at the Reno Livestock Event Center Exhibit Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The day-long event, sponsored by the Nevada Construction Collaborative, features morning educational sessions for Washoe School District counselors and faculty, plus separate hands-on exhibits for middle and high school students. An afternoon exploratory session and job fair is open to the public.
Representatives from area construction firms, associations and higher education will be on hand to answer questions, meet with students and the community to showcase various aspects of the construction trades.

In September, 9,358 initial claims for unemployment insurance were filed in Nevada, a decline of more than 7 percent compared to September 2015, according to the Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation.
The total is the lowest since September 1996, and lowest of any month since May of 1999. Initial claims have also declined for 18 consecutive months.
DETR also reported the unemployment rate in September fell to a seasonally-adjusted 5.8 percent, down 0.5 percent from August.
Year-to-date, construction continues to lead the industrial super sectors in terms of percentage growth, up 9.5 percent over the same period last year, which equates to a gain of 6,500 jobs. The trade, transportation, and utilities sector realized the largest increase in terms of nominal growth during the first nine months of 2016, up 9,200 jobs, an increase of 3.9 percent over to last year.
Young Leaders of the Americas Initiatives
Artown, along with 13 other Reno-Sparks businesses, has become part of the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiatives (YLAI) Professional Fellows Program through the Northern Nevada International Center and grantee Meridian International Center, a nonprofit, global leadership organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The program brings entrepreneurs and civil society leaders to the United States for a five-week program to empower young business or non-profit owners from Latin America and the Caribbean by pairing them with different host organizations in 21 different city hubs across the United States.

Plumas Bancorp
Plumas Bancorp, the parent company of Plumas Bank, announced record earnings for the three and nine months ended Sept. 30. Earnings during the third quarter of 2016 totaled $2 million an increase of $357,000, or 22 percent, from $1.6 million during the three months ended Sept. 30, 2015. Earnings per diluted share increased to $0.39 during the three months ended Sept. 30, up $0.07 from $0.32 during the third quarter of 2015. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2016, Plumas Bancorp reported net income of $5.4 million, an increase of $1.2 million, or 29 percent, from $4.2 million during the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2015. Earnings per diluted share increased to $1.06 during the nine months ended Sept. 30, up $0.24 from $0.82 during the first nine months of 2015.

Western Nevada College Specialty Crop Institute offers Organic Farming in the Sierra Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Western Nevada College’s Fallon campus, 160 Campus Way.
Workshop topics include an overview of organic crop production, soil fertility and management, crop rotation and cover cropping, managing pests, weeds and diseases, the benefits of biodiversity, organic certification and more. The workshop is recommended for both experienced and new farmers. Featured speaker is third-generation farmer Gary Romano.
Cost is $40 for those registering by Friday, Oct. 28 and $45 afterward. The registration fee includes lunch and a copy of Romano’s book.

CANstruction
CANstruction is recruiting teams for the 14th Annual event through Jan. 13, 2017. The 2017 event is scheduled March 1-5, 2017 at Meadowood Mall.
CANstruction, organized by the American Institute of Architects of Northern Nevada (AIANN) involves student and corporate teams making large sculptures out of non-perishable foods that are judged, enjoyed and then donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Dermody acquired a 130,000-square-foot industrial facility on Huntwood Avenue in Hayward, Calif.
It broke ground on a 152,000-square-foot facility in the LogistiCenterSM at Logan, a 5.5 million-square-foot industrial park in Logan Township, N.J.
Dermody has commenced construction on its second industrial facility near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron, Ky. The 264,000-square-foot facility will be complete in May 2017.
