Nevada State Bank

Nevada State Bank is opening a new branch located at 2483 Wingfield Hills Road, Suite A100, in Sparks on Oct. 24.

The new branch will feature modern décor, freestanding kiosks, a 24-hour SMART ATM, and a night depository. The kiosks are equipped with iPads that clients can use to access Nevada State Bank’s online banking application, compare checking accounts, and fill out online applications.


Sierra Meat & Seafood

Sierra Meat & Seafood has been named the Specialty Meat Company Marketer of the Year by the Certified Angus Beef brand.

The company, headquartered in Reno, was honored at the 2016 Certified Angus Beef Annual Conference for its distribution relationships, introducing restaurants to the company’s quality, and working with chefs to incorporate new cuts into their menus. The award follows a 30-year collaboration, which includes an exclusive line of franks and sausages.


BLG Agency

The Biggest Little Group, a Reno-based communications firm, has rebranded itself as BLG Agency (BLG) with a new logo, website and focus on advertising and public relations services.

Comprised of four equity-holding partners, the agency’s focus will hone in on the team’s specialties, including advertising, brand strategy, design, digital, public relations plus management and production of special events. In an often jargon-laden industry, the company’s entire scope of work is now simplified through the new logo’s inclusion of “advertising and PR,” categories that largely encompass each respective specialty.

Gas prices

Nevada experienced a 3 cent increase this past month in gas prices at an average of $2.51 a gallon, according to the latest AAA Gas Price Report. It is the sixth highest in the country, according to the latest AAA Gas Price Report.

Carson City posted the lowest price at $2.42, and Sparks has the highest average at $2.76.


The Summit

The Summit shopping center will be hosting a job fair in preparation for the holiday season on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In partnership with Nevada JobConnect, more than a dozen retailers will interview or take applications including BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Charming Charlie, Dillard’s, J. Crew, LOFT, Lucky Brand Jeans, lululemon athletica, Skipilini’s Italian, Sunglass Hut, White House Black Market, and Yankee Candle.

More than 50 positions will be open immediately and will continue through the holiday season with some positions continuing permanently.

RX3 Communications

RX3 Communications, a Reno-based firm that builds technology and communications infrastructure specifically for government agencies, was awarded a Prime Contract by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to refurbish 192 Weather Radar Chassis throughout the United States.

The contract is slated to last for three-years and will create three full-time and one part-time position for the company.


Noble Studios

Noble Studios, a Reno digital marketing agency, has signed three new travel/tourism brands to its list of clients in 2016.

The Islands of Tahiti, has hired Noble to help it extend its newly updated brand. The Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority also hired Noble to create a new website for the bureau.

Visit Fargo-Morehead in North Dakota has named Noble to help with its brand and translate it digitally through a redesigned website.


FoodMaxx

FoodMaxx has changed the opening dates for its stores in Sparks and Carson City.

The Sparks store at the intersection of Prater Way and North McCarran Boulevard is scheduled to open on Nov. 16. The Carson City store, located off of Highway 50 East, is scheduled to open on Dec 7.

It was determined the stores wouldn’t be ready to open on their original opening dates in early November.

FoodMaxx is one of the brands operated by The Save Mart Companies, a family-owned grocery chain based in California’s Central Valley.


Project Lead The Way

Reno High School is the recipient of a new $35,000 grant from Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to implement the organization’s career learning curriculum for its students.

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the United States in engineering, computer science and biomedical science.

Reno High School joins more than 9,000 schools across the U.S. in offering PLTW programs to its students.


Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc.

Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. has won a contract for construction of a portion of the highway system State Route 447 from Gerlach Road to Pershing and Washoe Counties.


NDOT

The Nevada Department of Transportation has begun paving of the future roadway extension of the USA Parkway/State Route 439 project.

Major earthwork is approximately 50 percent complete, with nearly 1.3 million cubic yards of earth already moved to make way for the future freeway. This week, crews have begun paving the first segment of future roadway from the end of the existing, paved USA Parkway to the Lyon County line.


BLM

The Bureau of Land Management’s Tuscarora Field Office is initiating an environmental assessment and seeking public input until Nov. 10 for the Perry Project.

Amendment to the Carlin Pete Operations Area (CPOA) Plan of Operations. Input received will be used to guide analysis in the environmental assessment.

The Public Relations Society of America’s Sierra Nevada Chapter presented the 30th Annual Silver Spike Awards Thursday, Nov. 17, which recognizes excellence in Nevada’s media and public relations professionals.

Truckee Meadows Community College is holding three Open House events highlighting its Production Systems program. The community is invited to find out more about the courses, labs and job opportunities in the advanced manufacturing field, including production and logistics.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Herds and Harvest is offering “Growing Grapes and Making Wine in Nevada,” on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Reno, and Saturday, Nov. 12 in Elko.

Jordan Chaffin and Grant Cramer will present topics.

Topics include: Growing grapes and making wine in Nevada; and organizing your viticulture business.
