ELDORADO, AFLAC, NCET AND MORE

WOMEN AS CHANGE MAKERS SUMMIT

The Women As Change Makers Summit is scheduled to take place Friday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at The Third Floor at Whitney Peak Hotel in downtown Reno. The summit is a one-day event designed to provide Reno-Tahoe women with the tools, knowledge and network to take their business or career to the next level. It includes inspirational speakers, engaging workshops, a female founder business pitch competition and a social good marketplace.

Golden Valley Industrial Complex

McKenzie Properties has broken ground on two speculative industrial buildings located at 925 and 945 North Hills Boulevard in Sparks.

Construction is scheduled to be complete in spring of 2017. The new buildings are 85,000 square feet and 62,000 square feet. They will be Class A tilt up construction and feature modern upgrades including LED lighting.

ERG AEROSPACE INC.

The company leased 11,500 square feet of manufacturing space at 55 Greg Street in Sparks. Matt Harris of Avison Young along with a California-based broker represented the tenant. Brad Lancaster of Kidder Mathews represented the landlord.

ELDORADO

Eldorado Resorts, Inc. announced last week that it plans to invest more than $50 million in facility enhancements to Eldorado Reno, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus Reno.

Eldorado’s will be phased over three years, and begin in the fourth quarter of 2016.

In addition to the renovation of over 4,100 guest rooms, each of the three resorts will introduce new restaurant concepts, reinvigorated nightlife and resort amenities, including a new full service luxury spa, creating a new standard of lodging in the city.

AFLAC

Basin Street Properties has signed a lease with Aflac Insurance for 7,040 square feet in its 300 East 2nd Street building in downtown Reno.

Aflac currently has over 40 agents in a region that spans all of northern Nevada and a portion of northern California.

COLOMBIAN MINES CORP.

Colombian Mines Corporation announced all parties have signed the definitive agreement whereby the Company has the exclusive right to acquire a 100 percent undivided interest in the high grade Pamlico gold project in Nevada.

SOLAR

Governor Sandoval’s New Energy Industry Task Force passed a number of recommendations in support of rooftop solar, distributed generation, and clean energy technologies.

The Task Force recommendations would require solar customers to pay their fair share for using the grid through a minimum bill in exchange for full retail-rate net metering, and require the Public Utilities Commission to conduct a full and fair accounting of the costs and benefits of rooftop solar. The Task Force also passed a measure to encourage community solar adoption.

NCET

NCET’s Tech Wednesday event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at ITS Logistics.

The new, 630,000-square-foot headquarters of ITS Logistics spotlights the ways that technology drives transportation and distribution operations to create new efficiencies and increased profitability for companies large and small.

FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES

The annual Family Owned Business Awards honors outstanding Nevada organizations. The program includes 30 finalists from southern Nevada and 30 finalists from northern Nevada in over 10 categories. Winners for each category are announced at two lunch events. Finalists and winners are chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of judges that include Nevada executives and decision-makers.

BLÜM DISPENSARY

Blüm Dispensary in Reno participated in an event earlier this month hosted by the Fountain of Youth.

Fountain of Youth — a local MediSpa that does medical marijuana evaluations by a neurologist — donated 21 free evaluations. Meanwhile, Blüm Reno sponsored three military veterans to receive their state medical marijuana license and gave 21 veterans a $25 gift certificate to use on their first purchase at Blüm, in addition to their 20 percent discount.

LATTIN FARMS, LAZY P FARM

Lattin Farms in Fallon and the Lazy P farm in Winnemucca, are among nearly 100 farms selected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the animated classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” with custom Peanuts themed corn mazes this fall.

The fall festivities at Lattin Farms begin Sept. 30, with the opening of the corn maze. Lazy P Farm will debut this year’s corn maze Oct.1.

NNDA

NNDA Economic Round Up breakfast will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 7-8:30 a.m. at Western Nevada College Aspen Hall in the Carson Nugget Room.

This breakfast meeting will feature both GOED Director Steve Hill of GOED and Executive Director Rob Hooper of NNDA. They will summarize and highlight key economic developments of this past year, and discuss forecast for this next year and the future.

ORCHARD PLAZA

The owners of the Retail Center, Job Corp, Coldwell Banker Commercial Business Properties, and GPS Property Maintenance are currently in the process of finishing up a remodel on the Orchard Plaza Shopping Center, located at 2293-2303 Virginia Street. Throughout the project they have welcomed Job Core students to join them on the job site and participate; offering them the opportunity for job experience and make a wage.

THE SPAW

Holly Siig Carso has recently opened “The Spaw,” a mobile dog salon in Reno.

Siig Carso is a Reno native and Wooster graduate, recently moved back from southern California where she had a mobile grooming business for the past nine years.

She has 23 years experience in dog grooming and is currently accepting dogs up to 50 lbs. She is licensed and insured.

UNITED CONSTRUCTION

Renown Health awards United Construction Class-A office renovation in south Reno. The project is a tenant improvement/renovation for a 42,000 square foot Class-A professional office building at 10315 Professional Circle.

United Construction partnered with Renown Health, Hammes Company (Owner’s Representative), and ZPD+A Architects to provide preconstruction services including preliminary pricing, mock-ups, expertise about local conditions/climate best practices and assisted in coordinating meetings with local planning and building officials to help facilitate the project budget and schedule.

After partnering for the preconstruction phase of the project, and through a competitive bid process, United Construction was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) to complete the demolition and construction phases of the project. Demolition work started last week and the project is scheduled to complete in early spring 2017. Once the renovation work is completed, Hometown Health will occupy the building.

PISTENBULLY

Kässbohrer All Terrain Vehicles (PistenBully), a manufacturer and supplier of snow grooming and terrain park equipment with offices in Reno, and Snow Park Technologies, a consulting team for special projects on snow, have teamed up to collaborate on the design of co-branded terrain park equipment, and to advance the product development efforts of PistenBully’s snow grooming vehicle fleet. The partnership will also offer current and future PistenBully clients access to special training opportunities provided by the SPT crew.

FIRST TEE OF NORTHERN NEVADA

The First Tee of Northern Nevada announced that the 12th Annual The First Tee of Northern Nevada Dinner and Auction will be held on Nov. 3 at the Eldorado Resort Casino, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Danyelle Musselman, former host of “Up to the Minute” on NFL Network and wife of current Nevada Men’s Basketball coach Eric Musselman, will serve as the keynote speaker. The 2016 Dinner Honorees are Mike & Denise Mazzaferri.

TAXABLE SALES

Taxable sales in Nevada for July was $4,460,349,844. This represent a 3 percent increase over July 2015.

Largest increases were in food services and drinking places, at 5.6 percent. Rental and leasing services were up 24.1 percent; Motor vehicle and parts Dealers, up 5.1 percent; professional, scientific, and technical Services, up 30.6 percent; and building material and garden equipment and supplies, up 8.4 percent.

Abbi Whitaker, co-founder and CEO of The Abbi Agency in Reno, had her article, “Four Successful Female Entrepreneurs Overcome Fear,” published in Forbes Magazine.

RENO PLAYA ART PARK

The City of Reno unanimously approved a lease agreement for the Reno Playa Art Park to be located in the 500 block of North Virginia Street at the site of recently demolished hotels.

The project was a partnership with ARTECH and Northern Nevada Urban Development & Management Company.

GAMING WINS

The gaming win in Washoe County in August was $70,145,844. In South Lake Tahoe, it was $23,916,719, in the Carson Valley Area, it was $8,616,181 and Elko County it was $21,268,759.

PERSHING RESOURCES COMPANY INC.

Pershing Resources Company, Inc. has renewed its existing BLM claims in Nevada and Arizona and has expanded its New Enterprise Project area to cover an additional 320 acres or a total area of 480 acres. Pershing expanded the claimed area following exploration work indicated the possible presence of an ore body extending from the original claim area. It has begun a mapping and sampling program on the expanded claim area.

NOBLE STUDIOS

Noble Studios, a digital marketing agency, took home the award for Best SEO Initiative Small Business at this year’s Search Engine Land (Landy) Awards.

Noble was honored for work Tahoe South, website for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
