Speaking at Empire: Congressman Ashley and General Edwards and Doctor Munekton, the latter being candidates for Senator and Assemblyman, addressed the Unionists of Empire on the night before last. We understand the meeting to be a most enthusiastic one.

Stewart in Virginia City: Senator Stewart spoke to a tremendous audience in Virginia last evening and sent the hot back into the camp of his traducers in magnificent style. The enemy will find Stewart a hard hitter.

100 years ago

Sheriff Joe Stern broke his right arm and thumb this morning about 11:30 o’clock, while cranking an automobile at the Anderson ranch, just southeast of town. A complaint had been made at the sheriff’s office this morning about cattle trespassing on the ranches in that section. As they were about ready to return home the sheriff started to throw it over. When it flew back, whizzing around it struck him on the wrist, fracturing it and the second time, hit him on the thumb, breaking it also.

70 years ago

A meeting of Den 1 of the Cubs was held Tuesday evening in the Scout room located in the basement of the Supreme Court building. During the evening the Cubs practiced tieing knots of various kinds. The meeting closed with the “Cub promise.”

Gene’s Bar in Dayton is unique in that it has an almost museum like atmosphere. Pictures of early Day Nevada dating back to 1906 line the walls with other unusual scenes. Various other interesting items such as early radios, leg irons, hand cuffs, bayonets, bottles, mail and local cattle brands may be seen.

Nevada’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent in September, its lowest mark since March 1980, the Employment Security Department announced today.
