Merrimac Mill: The meeting at the Mill was well attended. Speeches were made by Messrs.’ Meder, Edwards, Munckton, Horton, Clark ... The Merrimac Mill will turn out a sturdy band of “Union” voters on the day of election. The “Copperheads” are few and far between.

Biggest load of freight: Whitney & Co. have a freight wagon on the way laden with 24,000 pounds of freight. Most of the goods are for rail hardware merchant. It is the largest load ever sent over the mountains.

Mugwumps: The air is thick with rumors of more arrests. The Mugwumps propose to arrest every man who voted the Republican ticket.

Indian Pioneers: Fifteen Territorial Pioneers both White and Indians will be presented certificates on Nevada Day. They are Mrs. Annie Frank, age unknown, but she can remember the coming of the first white man into Nevada, age is estimated by Indian officials as being about 100. The next oldest is Bob Kane, 96, and Bob Tom, 95. The others are Johnny Jones, 85; Annie Downington, 83; Gertie Toi, 85; Phoebe Winnemucca, 82; Ben Rowe and Sue Rowe, 86; Billie Biscuit, 86; Joe Morgan, 83; Ed Buffalo, 84 and Maggie Herman, 85.

Mock election: A mock election took place at Carson High, and the consensus if left up to them, would be that Bill Clinton would be re-elected president and Ray Masayko would be Carson City’s new mayor — and that a new high school would be under construction in the city.
