Casino Player Magazine awards GSR

In a recent release from Casino Player Magazine, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) was awarded with a total of 19 Best of Gaming awards. Some of the casino’s first place wins include ‘Best Overall Gaming Resort,’ ‘Best Hotel’ and ‘Best Casino.’

Casino Player, one of the casino and resort industry’s premier publications, annually polls its readers to determine the recipients of awards in a variety of categories. GSR was awarded nine first place wins.

“Casino Player’s Best of Gaming awards are esteemed throughout the casino resort industry and, to continue to receive such high honors year after year is truly a reflection of the investment we have made in creating a world-class resort destination,” said Tracy Mimno, general manager at GSR in a press release.

Additional first place wins include ‘Best Suite,’ ‘Best Pool,’ ‘Best Slot Tournaments,’ ‘Best Reel Slots,’ ‘Best Video Poker’ and ‘Best Live Poker.’ The more than 2,000-room resort also received several second place awards including ‘Best Rooms,’ ‘Best Spa,’ ‘Best Race/Sports Book’ and ‘Favorite Casino Resort to Vacation at.’

In a June interview with NNBW the GSR also noted they are hopeful to gain their AAA Four Diamond rating within the next 12 months.

“(We are) finalizing some service touches and amenity touches,” Christopher Abraham, vice president of marketing for the GSR, said. “The Diamond Rating is not only the physical attributes of a room, but the service aspect of the property.”

“Experience, in our industry, is so important,” Abraham said.

The GSR has 2,400 team members with approximately 1,500 of those being full time. One of the largest employers in Washoe County, GSR is a top contributor to room tax revenue.
