Carson City Chamber of Commerce says no on recreational marijuana

The Carson Chamber of Commerce board voted last week to oppose the marijuana legalization question on the November ballot.

“This decision comes after much study of the flawed initiative and the reports of the problems now being faced in Colorado and elsewhere,” said Gordon Gagnon, vice president of REDCO and a member of the chamber board.

In a statement, chamber officials said the vague and flawed provisions in Ballot Question 2 “will be a burden on the business community seeking drug-free employees to operate within the manufacturing industry where precision is key.”

In addition, chamber officials say they will conduct two informational training sessions in October to advise businesses how to update their personnel policies in the event the measure legalizing recreational marijuana use passes. The purpose of sessions taught by Jo McGuire will instruct businesses how they can legally comply with Nevada law to keep their workplace safe and drug-free. The sessions will be held Oct. 18 at 8 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. at the Chamber. Those interested should call 882-1565.
