The Nevada Construction Collaborative, in partnership with the Washoe County School District Signature Academies and Career and Technical Education, is seeking exhibitors for the first-ever Construction Career Day at the Reno Livestock Event Center Exhibit Hall on Tuesday, October 25.

The NCC is comprised of Nevada Builders Alliance, The Associated General Contractors of America, Builders Association of Northern Nevada and the Western Apprenticeship Coordinators Association.

“Construction has re-emerged as one of the fastest growing occupations in Nevada,” Aaron West, chief executive officer of Nevada Builders Alliance, said. “In the coming years, Nevada will hire over 35,000 people in the skilled trades. Workforce development is our number one priority.”

The day-long event features morning educational sessions for Washoe School District counselors and faculty, and separate sessions of hands-on, interactive displays and exhibits for middle and high school students, and an afternoon community exploratory session and job fair which are open to the public. Representatives from area construction firms, associations and higher education will be on hand to answer questions, meet with students and the community to showcase various aspects of the construction trades. Employment resources including JOIN and JobConnect will be on hand for job seekers.

West said the event is designed to provide students and job seekers real-world information on available career paths in construction.

“It’s not just swinging a hammer,” he said. “Construction encompasses everything from brick-layers and carpenters to project managers, designers and support staff, and it provides a great living.”

Dana Ryan, Washoe County School District director of signature academies and CTE, said Construction Career Day is a great way for the industry to come together to show students, educators and the community that construction is a great career option with many different opportunities.

“As educators, our job is to make sure our students are made aware of the unlimited potential and variety of career and educational options available to them,” Ryan said. “I’m excited for students to have exposure to the diverse opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels in construction.”
