Renown Health Foundation is gearing up for the MAGIC 2016 Gala, coming up on Oct. 14 at the Downtown Reno Ballroom.

With the help of the community, MAGIC has raised funds for much needed medical equipment throughout Renown Children’s Hospital and towards the development of the all new Child Health Institute.

This year’s gala theme is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and guests are invited for an evening of delicious surprises — from the entertainment and sweets, to the guests and treats.

The dinner program will feature the presentation of the Arthur J. Lurie, MD, Distinguished Physician Award to Dr. Stephen Missal.

First presented in 2006, the Arthur J. Lurie, MD, Distinguished Physician Award is given to a physician in recognition for humanitarian, medical and community service to this region.

Renown Health Foundation will also honor one exceptionally brave patient of Renown Children’s Hospital with the Courage Award.

Renown Health, along with its partners, strives to keep care close to home for families in northern Nevada, with nearly 100,000 children living in Washoe County alone.

All proceeds from this year’s event will support Renown’s continued efforts to improve the health and well-being of children in our community, and to expand and enhance the services they provide our youngest, most vulnerable patients.

With the help of a $7.5 million donation from the William N. Pennington Foundation earlier this summer, one of the major upcoming initiatives is bolstering pediatric care staffing in the Reno area.

Renown will be adding several pediatric specialists, including those with subspecialties that are currently lacking in the community.

With this, northern Nevada will have access to the best physician specialists and clinicians right here in Reno — something that previously required treatment away from home for conditions related to oncology, rheumatology, immunology and gastroenterology, among others.

Proceeds from MAGIC 2016 will be applied to expanding and renovating children’s infusion and specialty services at Renown Children’s Hospital. The larger area will allow us to house the new physicians and provide children and their families with the care they need in one convenient location.
