White Sage, a new skincare studio, is open in Reno.

The woman-owned business offers custom, holistic skincare for men and women and is located at 328 California St., Suite A.

“I wanted to offer something that wasn’t a high-end casino-spa,” owner Greer Kukuk said in an interview with NNBW.

Kukuk moved to Reno on Nov. 1 of last year and opened for business at the end of January. She is originally from outside of Chicago and started studying to be an esthetician in 2009 by attending a holistic school for skincare in Portland, Ore. She differentiates her business by using only natural products and holistic practices on her clients.

“I think that it is really important to know that you can achieve healthy skin without chemicals,” Kukuk said.

The price for a facial ranges from $85 to $120 depending on the length of the appointment. In addition to facials, Kukuk also offers sugaring. Sugaring is similar to waxing but removes hair without attaching to the skin.

“It is a much gentler process on the skin,” Kukuk said. This method is good for clients with sensitive skin or people who have had a bad reaction to waxing, she explained.

White Sage is one of only a few businesses in Reno that offer this service. Kukuk said the only other one she knew of in the area was Dolce Vita Wellness Spa in south Reno.

Kukuk previously worked for a friend in Portland who owned a similar skincare studio. That experience has helped her as she launched her own business.

“It is a labor of love and it is just on your brain all the time,” she said about being a business owner.

The name for the business was inspired by Nevada’s high-desert environment and the fact that sage is known for its healing and cleansing properties.

“It just stuck,” Kukuk said about White Sage. “It just made sense.”

Kukuk said that one of the most rewarding aspects has been watching the business all come together. She originally thought that she would have to plug into an existing business before opening her own studio. However, moving to Reno has allowed her to accelerate her business goals.

“I would have never been able to do something of this magnitude in (Portland so quickly),” Kukuk said.

“This was my end goal. This was my bigger picture dream.”

Kukuk said that she is excited to be a part of the growing community in Midtown and when asked about her hopes for her business, Kukuk said, “I want it to be successful and I want it to be a sanctuary for (my clients).”

She would like to make her own products and possibility expand the business in the future.
