Update: Chase ends in downtown Carson City, suspect identified

Update:

The suspect involved in the high speed pursuit has been identified as Jesus Herrarea-Casas of South Lake Tahoe. He has been arrested on suspicion of eluding police, reckless driving, disregard to traffic control devices, speeding and driving without a valid license. He may also be charged with DUI, pending test results.

A high-speed pursuit ended in a crash on Carson Street Wednesday after a suspect attempted to flee from Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers.

The chase started on Spooner Summit after NHP attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect, described as a younger Hispanic male, then took off down Spooner and into Carson City. Carson City Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle at the bottom of the summit and assisted NHP in the chase.

Officials confirmed that a spike strip was utilized on Carson Street, however had little effect on the driver who continued on three flat tires. It was estimated that nearly half a dozen troopers were involved in the chase.

Troopers stopped the vehicle at Carson and Telegraph Streets after ramming the suspect vehicle with a Department of Public Safety trooper vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody by Carson City deputies. Charges for the suspect are unknown.

Witness accounts said the suspect may have told troopers that he didn’t stop because he didn’t feel that he had done anything wrong to get pulled over, however, motive has not been confirmed by officials.

No injuries were reported in the chase from either the suspect or the trooper. Carson City Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation as per protocol.

The suspect nor the trooper involved have been identified. Investigation is still pending and Carson Street from Musser to Proctor was closed for several hours.
