Reno drivers are still paying $3 at the pump for gasoline, nearly 50 cents more than in Southern Nevada, but the entire state of Nevada is paying a little less for gas than in July.
On Tuesday in Las Vegas, drivers paid an average of $2.54 per gallon, and in Reno drivers paid about $3 flat, according to AAA surveys of local stations. The average price is $2.63 statewide.
The price in Sparks was $2.97, while drivers in Carson City are paying $2.55. Elko recorded prices of $2.59.
The national average price for gasoline was $2.35, a 9-cent jump from last week. Travel demand is expected to be higher than normal in August.
“Gasoline prices in Nevada fell a little again this month, even as the rest of the country saw a spike in prices,” said AAA Nevada spokesman Mike Blasky. "But Nevada is still paying the nation's sixth-highest prices at the pump, and the prices increase the farther north you drive."
The price of crude is still under $50 a barrel after price increases since July. West Coast refineries are ramping up production in anticipation of the Aug. 21 eclipse, which will draw more than a million sky-watchers to Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming.
