Prepare for the races: We understand that Messrs. Bran and King of this city have leased the Carson Race Track, and that on Wednesday morning next, they will commence in earnest to pat the track in order so that at a very early day the track will be in splendid condition for the exercising of horses, and those gentlemen who have horses would do well to bring them to the track at once.

Jas. Wentworth Arrested: Yesterday afternoon Jas. Wentworth drew $500 from the bank to pay some bills when he began drinking and in a short time was making things very lively along Main Street. The sheriff and his deputy attempted to take him in and soon found they had a lively man to handle, and called on officer Furlong. By the time they got to Hank’s butcher shop they were getting tired, so they called Hank into the syndicate. The four got him to the station house. The officers say that he is the strongest man they have ever handled.

A dispatch to the Reno papers states that in the boiler explosion which occurred at the Austin-Dakota mine near Austin Wednesday morning, three men lost their lives, one, the engineer, being instantly killed and the other two dying a few hours afterwards from the burns and injuries received.

Large estate is distributed: Distribution of the $1,436,211.50 estate of the late Marie Doyle Marye was ordered this week by Judge A.J. Mestrietti in Reno district court. The Marye family resided on the Comstock during the boom period. George T. Marye, father of Jerome T. Marye Jr., came to Virginia City in 1869 to engage in banking on the Comstock. His business became enormous during this time.

Two ultra-modern traffic signals, already installed and in working order, were officially handed over this morning to the Ormsby county school district from Milton Tresnit of the Carson-Tahoe Independent Insurance Agents.

More than 200 golfers and residents turned out Saturday morning for the dedication of the city’s new golf course, Eagle Valley West.
