Minden – Douglas County has launched a new Transparency Portal at https://douglascountynv.opengov.com/ which consists of a cloud based platform in partnership with OpenGov, the leader in government performance management, to increase government accountability and improve access to important public information. The announcement delivers on the County Manager, Larry Werner and Chief Technology Officer, Sheri McGee’s, goal to more effectively engage the community and improve transparency with stakeholders through modern technology. “We want our residents to navigate through data relevant to Douglas County with ease, and provide an open and transparent format that can be viewed and downloaded anywhere at anytime,” said County Manager Larry Werner. “It’s our desire to build greater trust in government and facilitate civic engagement.” Douglas County’s new Transparency Portal empowers government officials and staff to conduct better analysis and performance measurement by improving access to key financial and non-financial data. The new site allows local residents to compare the County’s annual budget vs. actual spending, and other financial reports through the OpenGov link.. Residents can instantly find answers to frequently asked questions such as, “What is the County spending on salaries?” and The public can also download the data to review, and easily share over email and social media. “We’re excited to partner with Douglas County to harness the power of technology to increase government effectiveness and accountability,” said OpenGov CEO Zac Bookman. “Whether reviewing department expenditures or expanded funding for road projects, public officials are now able to easily report and track financial information, and local residents can see how their tax dollars are being spent.” Douglas County, with a population of over 45,000 residents, joins a growing number of local governments nationwide who rely on OpenGov’s next generation cloud software. The City of Boston recently launched its updated Open Data platform, “Analyze Boston” supported by the OpenGov Smart Government Cloud, and both the County of Kaua'i and Allegheny County in Pennsylvania have built robust transparency sites propelled by OpenGov.
