Personal: Dr. Munckton returned from San Francisco where he has been for improvement of his health. The doctor met Joe Hatch at Shingle Springs. While they were there, a crazy man who Joe was escorting to Stockton slipped away. Joe went in pursuit of his charge, finally treed him and got him back to the railway train to resume his journey.

All sorts: Sam Longabaugh was around town as hearty as ever, denying the report that he was dead. He says one lung is affected, but he can do all the talking he wants with the other.

Highwaymen: The stage between Hamilton and Pioche was held up by a gang of highwaymen. So far the officers have been unable to apprehend the guilty parties. The hold-up men were hidden in the brush, and at the command of “halt,” the driver faced a number of guns. The stage was brought to a standstill. The Wells Fargo treasure box was handed over, and the driver was told to drive on. Reward $1,000 for their apprehension.

100 Years ago

Leisure Hour: A dance will be given at the Leisure Hour hall by the club. Mrs. W. H. Cavell is chairman of the committee. During the evening there will be old-fashioned dances, and a prize given to the best couple. Admission 25 cents. Hooverized drinks 5 cents.

70 Years Ago

Photo caption: Bombs located lost temple — When Allied bombers blasted the little village of Pallestrine, near Rome, in 1944, they unknowingly turned back the clock 2,000 years. In wiping out a German observation post, the bombers revealed the lost Temple of Fortune, a magnificent monument to a civilization, that existed in 300 B.C.

Donations: Lt. John Van Cleef, Salvation Army Corps officer for Carson City said donations from individuals are coming in as well as corporate pledges. Kmart donated $1,000 to the annual “red kettles” drive.
