Work on State Route 28 in Incline Village ends

The Nevada Department of Transportation has wrapped up its work on State Route 28 through Incline Village for the season.

A spokesman said the project should be completed by the end of next year. It includes construction of the Shared Use Path, water quality and safety improvements. The work features parking near Hidden Beach, roadside drainage and sediment filtration, erosion control and a full three miles of shared use pathway including a tunnel beneath the roadway.

According to NDOT, this year’s work included paving 1.5 miles of that pathway between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park. Granite Construction also installed 2,800 feet of storm drain piping including 60 drainage inlets and 21 manholes.

Two vehicle pullouts were built to provide emergency parking and 14,200 feet of fiber optic conduit needed for emergency services and businesses in the area.

In addition, the Incline Village General Improvement District repaired 13 locations officials said were in danger of pipe failure, replacing 1,120 feet of sewer line spread over 2.5 miles.

The purpose of the project is to reduce congestion and improve safety along a route that annually sees 2.5 million drivers as well as more than 2,000 pedestrians and bicyclists.

Although work is essentially done for the winter, a spokesman said crews may do minor preparations along the path during the winter if conditions permit. That could mean some lane closures during the off-season.
