Sheriff Smith’s condition, as reported by Doctor Hunchton yesterday afternoon, was highly encouraging. The doctor thinks the bullet must have lodged in some of the fascia or muscles near the spine and that the peritoneum and visera are entirely uninjured. The doctor would bet as nigh on his recovery as he would on four aces.

Mrs. Maud Kittell, a well-known dressmaker, was found dead in her room in the one of Mrs. Mary Ayers on East Third Street shortly before noon yesterday. Near her right hand lay a small .32-caliber revolver which were two empty cartridge shells.

The purchase of a police car was considered at the regular December meeting of the board of city trustees last evening. E.C.D. Marraige appeared before the board to request that a street light be placed at the corner of Stewart and East Proctor.

Four horses faced with the prospect of a trip to the butcher’s block got a reprieve late this morning. It would have been the first such wild horse destruction of its type in the Carson City-Dayton area in several years.
