Death of Sheriff Smith (continued from Wednesday): He has died in the midst of his usefulness, leaving wife and children to mourn the loss of a husband and father upon whose strong arm they relied in well assured confidence for that protection and support which they much needed. His death was serene and calm. About two hours before he breathed his last, George Wilson told him of the hopelessness of his case. He was prepared for the awful change, and so declared himself. Calling his family to his bedside, he spoke to them with words of cheer, resignation and hope. His mind was clear and undisturbed up to the final moment. May peace be with him! And may the bereaved ones he has left behind find comfort and consolation.

Music at the Switch (continued from Wednesday): But suddenly the stranger appeared at the door of the saloon and the barkeeper began shooting at the retreating cowboy. The second shot brought down the horse, and the astonished cowboy rolled on the street. “Bring back that stove, you ——!” was the call of the stranger. “Can’t do that, my horse is down.” “Then get another horse, pretty d—— quick.” The cowboy shook the town amid the jeers of his comrades.

White Pine Boys Go to Front: During the past two weeks from 60 to 75 young men left White Pine County to join the colors. The absence of young men on the streets is quite noticeable. They have mostly gone to training camps. (Ely Record)

Robert Porter and Hubert Johnson were highly praised Monday noon at the regular meeting of Lions by Clark J. Guild as he awarded the pair their Eagle Scout certificates and medals. The medals were pinned on the two scouts by their fathers, Max Porter and Hubert Johnson.
