Failure to yield right of way causes crash

A two-vehicle crash at Sheckler Cut Off and U.S. Highway 50 on Tuesday was the result of failing to yield the right of way.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said a 1998 Red Dodge Dakota driven by 31-year-old Jennie May of Mountain View, Hawaii, was traveling Northbound on SR117 (Sheckler Cut Off).

According to the NHP, May failed to yield right of way from the stop sign at the intersection with U.S Highway 50 and struck a 1997 Black Nissan Pickup, driven by 47-year-old Gregorio Madera-Ramirez who sustained minor injuries. No alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash.

Madera-Ramirez was taken to Banner Churchill Community Hospital by family where he was checked by medical staff. No serious injury was found.

This crash occurred at an intersection that has had multiple crashes over the years, some being very tragic. The plea of the Nevada Highway Patrol is to be patient at this intersection and to check and recheck that it is safe for you to enter the intersection before proceeding, as it is with any intersection.
