Pine Grove: This is the name of the new town, as christened by residents therein, which is rapidly springing up in the recently discovered Wilson Mining District. The district is situated about midway between the East and West Walker rivers, some 10 or 12 miles form either stream. At Pine Grove, last November, there was but one house; now there are about 75, mostly balloon frame, many not more than 16 by 14 feet.

The storm: As the Appeal goes to press the snow is about two feet deep and still falling. The road is blocked in all directions, and there is 17 feet of snow reported at the summit. Friend says that the moisture filled to date is still behind that of last year by 3 1/2 inches. Beyond this, the Appeal readers know as much of the storm as anybody.

The remains of Father Garland arrived in Carson on this afternoon’s train, accompanied by Father D.W. Murphy of Virginia City, Father Horgan of Sparks, Father James Dermody of Goldfield, Father Thomas Dermody of Lovelock and Miss Sarah Donnelley of Carson. A large concourse of friends of the deceased assembled at the depot to meet the arrival of the train.

Boy Scouts, who yesterday visited Carson City to take over state offices, were guests of Governor and Mrs. Vail Pittman at the executive mansion as part of the organized program for the day. Assisting the host and hostess in directing the visitors through the mansion was an efficient group of 20 Girl Scouts.

Gov. Paul Laxalt today launched a drive to strengthen ties between state and local governments by announcing formation of a Governor’s Advisory Council on Local Government.

Two hapless Douglas County Jail inmates were thwarted in an ambitious, but doomed, escaped attempt this week after they allegedly partially dug through a cell wall leading to a fenced recreation yard.
